HH-43 OPERATION   from   BienHoa  Airbase, RVN 

 

First HH-43 activity at Bien Hoa AB, RVN was organized as follows :

TDY  DET.4 , WARC    arrived at Bien Hoa AB on 08 August 1964 with HH-43B  59-1549 and  60-0258
TDY  DET.1 , CARC  arrived at Bien Hoa AB on .. August 1964 with HH-43B  59-1571 and  62-4510 
TDY  DET.5, WARC arrived at Bien Hoa AB on .. August 1964 without helicopters  
These three TDY units together,  formed  DET Provisional.1, PARC on 01 September 1964

On 01 September 1964  DET Provisional.1, PARC was activated here ;   Aircraft :  59-1549, 60-0258, 59-1571, 62-4510
On 10 November 1964  DET.Prov.1 was reassigned to Takhli AB, Thailand , together with HH-43B 59-1549 and  60-0258

62-4510 was trasferred to DaNang AB, date unknown but sometime during October 1964
59-1571 was damaged in a mortar attack which took place at BienHoa AB on 01 Nov 1964

On 20 October 1964  DET.4 , PARC was activated here and received brand new HH-43F as follows :
63-9711 and  63-9712  arrived 20 October 1964
63-9716 was delivered on 26 October 1964

The following picture series were taken by Mr. Chester A. Duprey, at that time in 1965 he was an A1c and flight crew chief at Bien Hoa AB. He arrived here together with two brand new HH-43F , delivered from Kaman Corp., Bloomfield, CT during October 1964.
The pictures show a scramble of HH-43F 39716 at Bien Hoa AB , RVN during March 1965.
The A-1E on final was asking for assistance,  it landed but went off the runway and caught fire. The pilot could escape safely.

During the same month , March 1965 , A1c Chester A. Duprey made the following "report" about a scramble in relation to a crippled A-1E (troubles with the left main gear). In the pictures one of the three DET.4 , PARC HH-43F played a major role :

On 01 July 1965  DET.6 , 38 ARS , PARC was activated here to replace DET.4 , PARC ; aircraft : HH-43F  63-9711, 63-9712, 63-9716
