HH-43 OPERATION   from   Ubon  Airbase, Thailand 

 

First HH-43 activity at Ubon AB, Thailand was organized as follows :

TDY  DET.3 ,  CARC    arrived at Ubon AB on or about 9 April 1965 with HH-43B  59-1561 and  59-1562
TDY  DET.7 , CARC     (without aircraft)
                        These two TDY units formed DET.Provisional.3 , PARC on 14 April 1965

On 01 July 1965  DET.3 , 38 ARS , PARC was activated here to replace DET.Prov.3 , PARC ;
aircraft : HH-43B  59-1561, 59-1562  ; and  62-5978 which was delivered from 33 ARS probably around 30 Jun 1965

59-1562was involved in an accident on 16 July 1965 (repaired by 29 Sep 1965)

The following pictures were all taken by Mr. Jerry VanGrunsven. Mr. VanGrunsven was as pilot assigned to DET.3, 38 ARS from October 1965 until September 1966. I would like to thank him very much for being able to use his unique pictures. He took many pictures of the Huskie and there are several interesting stories to be reviewed here ,while he was flying HH-43B's out of Ubon AB.
